The Black Dahlia Murder Headlines RamFest 2020

The 2020 metal scene in South Africa has taken a tremendous leap forward as this year’s headliners for Ramfest 2020 is none other than The Black Dahlia Murder!

To make things more interesting, we managed to snag a quick interview with vocalist, Trevor Strnad!

Firstly we found out that this is in fact the first time that The Black Dahlia Murder will be performing on South African soil as none of the members have visited South Africa before. However, Trevor says they’re extremely excited as during the last couple of months they’ve seen the fan base in SA grow rapidly.

Hundreds of dedicated fans thought they might never be able to see the band perform live and now the opportunity has finally arrived.

The idea that we could be making someone’s dream come true in this way feels amazing.  We’ll also be playing a bit of new music from our upcoming 9thalbum for the first time, which is
exciting for sure. “

We also had to find out , concerning traveling and performing in other countries if their experiences differ…

It can be! I feel like touring Europe and the states is very similar in that we travel each night by bus/van to the next show and use our own equipment each night. These are the easiest tours we face. When you go to Australia or South America for example, we have to fly early each morning after getting to bed quite late. We’ll also have to use different gear each day which can vary in quality. Sometimes its great and sometimes its quite frustrating. I think overall the crowds are generally the same the world over. We want the same things from them. Fists in the air, crowd surfing, singing into the mic along with me. We won’t stop until we get a reaction from people.”

Trevor mentions that the band looks forward to performing alongside Bleeding Spawn and Vulvodynia. They’re rather familiar with both bands. South African rock legends, Van Coke Kartel will also be kicking it on stage at Ramfest!

During the interview, we had to dig deeper and go back to where it all started. We asked Trevor more about the origins of The Black Dahlia Murder.

The name of the band is derived from a famous murder case that still resonates here in the states.  A young actress, nicknamed the Black Dahlia for her jet black hair, moved to California with stars in her eyes wishing to become a famous actress. She was cruelly murdered and left in the street to be found.  She was cut in half and drained of blood, with a smile carved onto her face.  The case is still unsolved and remains shrouded in mystery. When I learned of it, the weird details surrounding it scared the crap out of me, so I knew then that it was the perfect band name. Musically, we were inspired by bands like Carcass, At The Gates, In Flames, and Darkane when we were first getting our footing.  We also looked up to successful local Detroit bands like Walls of Jericho, who were kicking immense ass at the time.”

With the announcement that The Black Dahlia Murder will be headlining Ramfest 2020, it’s clear that this year will be great in many ways for the band. One thing fans can look forward is the new album dropping in April!
